Hey! You are all brilliant and hearers of God. I want your input on Christmas Eve. We are doing the same songs on Christmas Eve as we do on the 23rd (Sunday).
We have discussed it as a staff and creative team. It is crucial that those who only darken the doors on major holidays are able to experience CHURCH, not just Christmas carols. We also want to do something they may be familiar with.
Here are the thoughts:
There will be a fantastic light show to a Christmas song...awesome! My fav!
3 songs and one human video:
Song #1: to catch them where they are at...
I am desiring to do a Linkin Park song...
"What I've Done" or "Leave out all the rest"Daughtry, Flyleaf to go along with "Leaving a legacy."
Song #2: a great upbeat worship song: Check out this video to this song. What do you think? Are there any songs we currently do well you think we could do?
Song #3: Do a great slow worship song. I've had the suggestion of Jesus is...What do you think?
Song#4: Human Video to "Everything"
Please weigh in asap. Terryl (isn't he great?) will get copies of the songs out so we can all practice them ahead of time.

Cool backgrounds! Thinking on about the songs...I love the Daughtry song. Get back soon.
Yes, we love Terryl! :)
Loved the video - I think it's really something that will suck people in a little more than usual.
"Jesus Is" is absolutely powerful, and I think something that profoundly speaks to many hearts. At Christmas it's easy to just focus on the precious little baby, forgetting how extremely powerful that night really was!! "God with us" is such a catch phrase, and yet the implications of what that truly means is HUGE! It would be really cool if we could really hang out there for a while, either before or after, to really allow it to marinate...
There is such a spirit of expectation this year, hearts are ready that have not been before - woo hoo!!
I agree with the comments given about this being a powerful time and the services will be awesome.
Linkin Park gets a "No" from me. I think playing the intro last week was cool, but I don't want to endorse any message they support or send a wrong message that we support them or their music. I can imagine a kid, maybe a teenager in our church asking their mom or dad, "who sings that song?" What kind of answer could we give? What would that conversation sound like? No, you cannot buy their album because they are not a Christian group or a group you can listen to. Then... why did the worship team play their song? Linkin Park is not a group I listen to or would want my youth listening to or being interested in. Can we still be cutting edge without the potential of mixed messages? I know we can but it will require a lot of creativity. Aren't people that are coming to church especially on the holidays looking for something different rather than something familiar?
Daughtry may be OK for me - I have not really given him a thorough listen. Unfortunately, and I apologize in advance I don't have a lot of ideas of what we could do. I will be praying and thinking. What thoughts do you all have on Linkin Park?
At this point, I am leaning toward what we usually do - let's do our own songs that overtly glorify God, are COOL to us, and are above controversy.
I love the latest song that Terryl and Pastor Mel wrote: "I am Free." It is anointed.
In a "holiday world" that sends mixed messages about Christmas and its meaning, I want to see our church come out strong. This means taking a firm stand from the opening bell, opening song, all the music and right on into Pastor Jeff's preaching.
I guess our challenge is to be relevant and real with people. So........let's give them what we really are. I am not Linkin Park. Now as to relevant....... your thoughts??
